Petrom and UNICEF launch the brochure “Advice for Parents” and the survey “Parental Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices

Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in South Eastern Europe, together with UNICEF launched the brochure “Advice for Parents” and the survey “Parental Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices” on Tuesday, July 25th, 2006. The event is part of the educational program “Parental Education in Pre-school Education in Romania”, initiated by UNICEF and supported by Petrom.

„Petrom joined UNICEF Romania in its projects, as our company sees the family and children’s education as a priority for the society we are living in; through the program Petrom Move & Help :-), the company supports the educational efforts in order to secure a healthier and better future to our children”, stated the Chief Executive Officer of Petrom, Mariana Gheorghe.

The brochure is a handy and useful educational tool that provides the parents of 0 to 7 year children with useful advice on their children’s education. This brochure will be distributed to all kindergartens included in this program as well as to other institutions and NGO’s, dealing with child’s education.

The program “Parental Education in Pre-school Education in Romania” was started in 2005 and is developed over a period of 18 months, with a budget of EUR 150,000.
The first stage happened last year when a national survey was performed on a sample of approximately 2,800 families regarding the parental knowledge, attitudes and practices. The outcome of the survey pointed out the necessity of educating the parents regarding the child’s health and hygiene, proper nutrition, as well as the importance of preparing the child for school. Therefore within 15 kindergartens in Romania, an ample program of parental education is developed and consists of trainings, lessons with the parents, debates on the topic “Parents’ education – education of our children”.
In this way, approximately 20,000 families in Bucharest and in the country and over 40,000 children of these families benefit from a proper and sound education.

Petrom Move & Help :-) is a far reaching program of social involvement carried by Petrom for the protection and development of the community. Under Petrom Move & Help :-), the company involved in long term social programs together with the Romanian Red Cross, UNICEF. Over EUR 1.3 mn were used in support programs for the hard hit, informing the population about disaster prevention, parental education in pre-school education.
