At Petrobrazi Refinery, we write the story of mobility from crude oil processing to solutions of the future. Here, crude is refined and transformed into high-quality products, while investing in the sustainable fuels of tomorrow.

Currently, Petrobrazi provides for ~35% of Romania's fuel demand. We continue our investments in its operational optimization, as well as in growing its role in lower-carbon transportation. Through a €750 million investment, we are working on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Green Hydrogen production units. Our aim is to position Petrobrazi as the first major producer of sustainable fuels in the Southeast Europe, with an annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes.

History

Petrobrazi’s story began in 1934 with the founding of the Creditul Minier refinery, starting with a yearly capacity of just 300,000 tonnes. Nearly destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt and adjusted, for new challenges and energy needs. Over the decades, Petrobrazi has played a key role in producing essential fuels that power everyday life. Since 2005, the refinery has gone through vast modernization and portfolio diversification processes, through investments of more than €2 billion.


Today

We continue to streamline operations at Petrobrazi and we are preparing it to deliver the fuels of the future. Our transformation includes major projects that support cleaner fuels, higher efficiency and environmental performance:

  • Low-Emission Fuel Production: The new SAF/HVO unit, currently under construction along with green hydrogen facilities, will enable the production of cleaner fuels with significantly lower CO₂ emissions.
  • Cleaner Operations: The closed blowdown system, upgraded storage capacities and coke drum modernization projects were designed to reduce emissions and improve operational safety.
  • Efficiency and Reliability: The Polyfuels unit, the crude oil processing program and the general turnaround works enhance energy efficiency and ensure the refinery meets the highest environmental and performance standards.

Our ongoing projects

We invest in the future of mobility. From our SAF/HVO sustainable fuels unit and green hydrogen production to the expansion of our EV charging network, we are taking steps towards low-emission transportation.
