OMV Petrom continues partnership with HOSPICE Casa Speranței
- Sponsorship of approximately 1.6 million euro to ensure free palliative care services for children with incurable and life-limiting diseases
- According to HOSPICE estimates, there are over 22,000 children in Romania who need palliative care
Bucharest, September 25. OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, continues to support the activities of HOSPICE Casa Speranței, the largest foundation in Romania that offers palliative care. The company will fund free palliative care services for children with incurable and life-limiting diseases with approximately 1.6 million euro for one year.
Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom: „The first year of collaboration brought us closer to the extraordinary actions of the HOSPICE Casa Speranței team, which helps thousands of people throughout the country. With this new announcement we are privileged to continue to support their efforts to bring comfort to suffering people.”
Within the project supported by OMV Petrom, over 500 children and 1,000 relatives will benefit from the palliative care services offered by the foundation. For children, services are offered in units with beds, at home, ambulatory care and in Day Centres. It is recommended that palliative care be initiated from the diagnosis, whether a child receives treatment for the illness or not. To be effective, this care requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes the family and utilizes available community resources.
Mirela Nemțanu, Executive Director of HOSPICE Casa Speranței: „According to our estimations, there are over 22,000 children in Romania who need palliative care. We make constant efforts to remain alongside vulnerable children, despite all the obstacles we encounter. We are glad that OMV Petrom has become a long-term supporter, it is proof that our mission is seen and that the constant need for resources is understood. Thank you, OMV Petrom, and we assure you that this sponsorship allows us to more easily achieve our goals of remaining alongside those who need it most.”
In 2023, OMV Petrom joined HOSPICE Casa Speranței with a sponsorship of over 7 million euro, which financed the operational costs of the organization for the year 2023. Thus, HOSPICE Casa Speranței was able to provide services for a record number of beneficiaries: over 5,500 patients and over 11,000 family members.
OMV Petrom has been constantly involved in supporting relevant projects in the fields of health, environment and education. The cumulative value of the company's social contributions amounts to approximately 160 million euro in the period 2007-2023.
