Social Investments

We are part of Romania's social fabric. Find out more about our involvement in the communities.
As a long-term partner in Romania’s sustainable development, we are committed to creating lasting value for communities through targeted investments and strategic collaborations. Our approach combines financial support with knowledge-sharing to empower people and drive impactful, sustainable projects that benefit millions of Romanians.
Since 2007, corporate responsibility has been an integral part of our business strategy. Between 2007-2024, we have allocated ~€190 million to community development initiatives, focusing on health, environmental protection and educational projects. These investments reflect our belief that strong communities are essential to long-term business and societal success.
Furthermore, the OMV Petrom Foundation, launched in 2022, is building programs and supporting long-term investments in Romania in its mission to connect and develop communities and build a better tomorrow for Romania and Romanians through education, health and environment programs.

We are proud to collaborate with a wide network of local NGOs and community partners. Thanks to their expertise and grassroots engagement, the reach and positive impact of our programs is significantly amplified. These partnerships are central to our mission of fostering resilient and forward-looking communities across Romania.

“Efficient Romania” is the largest private initiative in Romania dedicated to promoting energy efficiency in buildings, developed by the Energy Policy Group (EPG) and financed by OMV Petrom.
Launched in 2019, the project combines public awareness campaigns with hands-on renovation of public schools to nZEB (nearly Zero Energy Building) standards. It has already completed major refurbishments at schools in Ploiești, Băicoi, and Vernești, significantly reducing energy consumption, by up to 60% annually, and integrating renewable energy sources like photovoltaic and solar thermal panels.
The initiative supports Romania’s 2030 climate goals and the EU’s “energy efficiency first” principle, while improving learning environments and promoting sustainable infrastructure in education.
The "Click on Romania" program we support comes to the help of schools and children from marginalized rural or urban areas, for whom the transition to a digital education, suitable for the present, has been hampered by the lack of functional IT equipment in educational units.
Ateliere Fără Frontiere, the association managing it, helps refurbish used IT equipment to be later donated to the abovementioned beneficiaries. Aside from digital education, the program also has a beneficial impact on the environment. By preparing 4,000 IT equipment for reuse per year, the emission of 2,273,475 kg of CO₂ into the atmosphere is avoided.

We support initiatives that encourage equal access to quality education and support for national education system (formal and informal learning initiatives), technical and vocational education, infrastructure development, skills development for increasing employability, promotion of gender equality, as well as information campaigns on topics in the energy field, educational events (conferences, debates, roundtables), using of new technology and innovation in this area.
