  • 20 million euros invested in advanced waste-water treatment systems

OMV Petrom, the largest energy producer in South-Eastern Europe, has completed a 20-million-euro investment at the Petrobrazi refinery to modernize its waste-water treatment systems.

“At Petrobrazi, we are constantly investing in modern technologies to reduce our environmental impact and increase operational efficiency. These new waste-water treatment projects reflect our determination to operate responsibly and invest in technologies that protect the environment and support Romania’s energy sector future,” said Radu Căprău, Member of  OMV Petrom’s Executive Board responsible for Refining and Marketing.

Within the new project the existing tanks were covered and modern systems for capturing and treating wastewater gas were installed. These gases undergo three successive processes – chemical treatment, activated carbon filtration and thermal oxidation – to be cleaned efficiently.

Over 2 billion euros invested at Petrobrazi

These works are part of a large-scale modernization program at the Petrobrazi refinery. OMV Petrom has invested over 2 billion euros since 2005 to modernize the facilities, improve energy efficiency and prepare the transition to low-carbon fuels.

The company is currently carrying out a major new project, worth approximately 750 million euros, to build a sustainable fuels production unit (SAF/HVO), which will also include a green hydrogen component.
