OMV Petrom is not only one of the largest contributors to the Romanian State budget, but also a longtime supporter of Romanian educational, cultural and sports initiatives.
For more than a decade, OMV Petrom has sponsored numerous cultural and educational projects in several local communities and large scale popular sports projects such as the Bucharest Half Marathon. The company is also a keen supporter of gymnastics and of football, two of the sports that have put Romania on the map of international performance.
At the end of 2019, we started a partnership with Gheorghe Hagi Academy (AGH) and FC Viitorul to support and develop Romanian sports and promote a healthy lifestyle. The partnership is based on shared values, by both OMV Petrom and AGH, and on the confidence that Romanian football can once again become a reason for national pride.
The partnership with AGH was concluded for a period of three years and aims to increase the number of children who can be trained in the Academy and ensure the best training conditions, at international standards. These include providing a sports base for training and matches, training programs developed in partnership with renowned international clubs, equipment and nutrition programs, and health insurance.
AGH is a unique project in Romania, developed sustainably, based on successful models validated internationally. In 2019, AGH was designated by the Romanian Football Federation as the best football academy in Romania.
In the first decade since its establishment, AGH obtained 24 national junior titles, and the annual average of players selected in Romania's national teams exceeds 40 players / season (seniors, U19, U18, U17, U16, U15). And FC Viitorul represents the confirmation of the top products of the Gheorghe Hagi Academy, confirmed also by the 3 major trophies won by FC Viitorul Constanța in the last 4 years (National Champion League 1-2017, Romanian Cup and Super Cup-2019).
First held in 2012, the Bucharest Half Marathon is one of Romania’s most important popular sport initiatives. A key partner from the inaugural edition, OMV Petrom is proud to have participated with runners at every edition. Few sports have given Romanians more joy and pride than gymnastics. OMV Petrom’s involvement in Romanian gymnastics dates back to 2010, when the company started supporting the Female National Gymnastics Team. Three years later, in 2013, the company came together with the Romanian Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Bucharest City Hall, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and the “Champions’ House” Foundation in a public-private partnership created to further develop Romanian female gymnastics. OMV Petrom’s financial contribution was of 2,5 million euro, with clear focus on the development of young talents.One of the latest landmark projects of OMV Petrom in sports was the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics Individual Championships held in Cluj-Napoca, where the company was the main sponsor.
