Involuntary manslaughter case – court of first instance decision

In the file where OMV Petrom SA was accused of involuntary manslaughter and was sent to trial, the court of first instance - Ploiesti Court found the company guilty for committing the crime of involuntary manslaughter and was convicted to a punishment of a criminal fine amounting to RON 380,000 (200 days of fine, the equivalent of a day of fine being of RON 1,900). On the civil side of the criminal file, the company was obliged to pay moral damages in total amount of EUR 135,000 to the victim’s family. The court also applied the complementary sanction of the suspension of activity at the well no. 536 Aricestii Rahtivani for a period of six months since the court decision becomes final. The decision is not final. The company will file an appeal against the decision. 

The accusation is referring to an incident which occurred near one of the company’s wells located in Aricestii Rahtivani in Prahova County, where the victim was found dead.
