Petrom puts Romania in motion through PETROM RUNNING COMPETITION

Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in South Eastern Europe, together with the Romanian Athletics Federation and the Romanian Athletics Foundation, initiates and organizes a significant event: Petrom Running Competition. The great national and international champion of the Romanian athletics, Gabriela Szabo, will give the start at the Petrom Running Competition, on October 1st, 2006, 11:00 h, in Charles de Gaulle Square (Herastrau Park).

„We want to put Romania in motion with this running competition; it is an event where everybody can attend, an opportunity to think about our health, the benefits of sport and to act accordingly”, said Mariana Gheorghe, Chief Executive Officer of Petrom.

At Petrom Running Competition, competitors from all over the country are invited, regardless of their age or whether they belong or not to a sports club. The running competition is structured on three age brackets: juniors, seniors and veterans. The sign ups can be made between September 21st and 30th based on a participation ticket that can be obtained either from the Athletics Federation or printed from the websites of the Athletics Federation or Petrom. The registration can be done also on the day of the competition, Charles de Gaulle Square, between 8.30 and 10.30.
The sign up for the running competition is free.
The prizes consist of Petrom fuels and are granted according to the final classification, as follows: 1000 liters of fuels for the first place, 750 liters for the second place and 500 liters for the third place. Two special prizes will be given in the amount of 1500 RON for the disabled persons that finished first at girls/boys category.
In addition, all contestants will participate in a tombola organized for this occasion and will have the possibility to win important prizes. The tombola will be held immediately after the finish of the running competition and the prizes to be won are bicycles, scooters and a car Dacia Logan.
The event will be ended with an extraordinary concert performed by Directia 5 music band.

The Romanian Athletics Federation was set up in 1912 as a representative body of all athletic sections of the Sport Clubs and Associations in Romania. Its objective is to organize, guide and manage the athletic activities in Romania, to bring together all athletics sections of Sport Clubs and Associations and to promote the Romanian athletics in international competitions under IAAF and AEA.

The Romanian Athletics Foundation was set up in 1993 as a representative body with the objective to support national teams by financing their participation at international competitions, acquisitions of sport equipments, vitamins, medicines, organizing competitions for the young or the elderly, improving the material base of athletics etc.
