OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in Southeastern Europe, will be the official sponsor of the tenth edition of the Bucharest Half-Marathon, an annual competition organized by the Association Bucharest Running Club. The outdoor competition will take place on September 4-5 and the virtual ones between September 4 and 19.

Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom: “The Bucharest Half Marathon is a landmark for this kind of competitions in Romania and we are delighted to join them for the 10th edition, as official partner. We strongly wish for the offline races to be resumed and to see as many participants as possible. We support a healthy lifestyle and exercise is an essential component.”

Valeria Răcilă van Groningen, President of Bucharest Running Club: „I want to thank OMV Petrom for the continuous support and trust you give to the Bucharest RUNNING CLUB team and which makes the Bucharest Half Marathon an event with extraordinary energy and a reference between running events from the country and from abroad. I would also like to thank the members of the community of runners who have not lost their motivation to train all this time and to prepare for the races. The announcement of OMV Petrom Bucharest Half Marathon is a significant step towards the return of running events that bring together both elite runners and those who want to support humanitarian causes."

OMV Petrom is one of the most important partners of the Bucharest Half Marathon competition since the first edition, organized in 2012. OMV Petrom was the official sponsor between 2012 and 2017, when the competition was named OMV Petrom Bucharest Half Marathon. Starting in 2018, OMV Petrom became a Gold sponsor, and the 21 km race was named OMV Petrom Half Marathon.

The number of participants has steadily increased from 3,000 runners in 2012 to 19,000 in 2019, with runners from 65 countries. The number of OMV Petrom employees running in various races has increased considerably, from 90 in 2012 to over 660 in 2019.

Last year was the first time that the half marathon, scheduled for May 8-9, did not take place, amid restrictions on mobility and physical distance measures imposed to stop the spread of the pandemic.
