Petrom offers again help to the victims of the floods

  • Petrom continues to carry out relief actions for the stranded
  • Fuels, water, polyethylene sacks and gas cylinders for Harghita, Ialomita and Calarasi
  • Aids value supplement Euro 1 million budget for the victims of the floods

Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in South East Europe, continues its relief campaign for the victims of the floods started in May this year.
„Our involvement is characterized by immediate and active measures whenever necessary and it is our strong belief that these measures are essential. But the high number of victims show the fact that we are not prepared to face the disasters; therefore, I think that the proactive actions to educate the population present the same importance and benefit from our support”, stated Mr. Gheorghe Constantinescu, Chief Executive Officer of Petrom.

Three of the seriously affected counties following the floods at the end of September, Harghita, Ialomita and Calarasi, benefited from the support of Petrom to remove the disasters aftermath. The overall value of these relieves amounted to more than 700 million lei.
Petrom supplied 6 tons of diesel, 0.5 tons of gasoline and 0.1 tons of lubricants used for the operation of motor pumps. 5.5 tons of mineral water Carpatina were distributed in Ialomita county. Also, Petrom provided the authorities of the same county with 4,900 polyethylene sacks to be used for building the dams. A number of 150 gas cylinders were directed to the inhabitants of Lupeni village of Harghita county.

The value of the relieves distributed in Harghita, Ialomita and Calarasi add to the Euro 1 million budget that Petrom allocated for the victims of the floods: EUR 750,000 were granted through the Romanian Red Cross and EUR 250,000 directly to the hard-hit.

The actions that Petrom takes, directly or through the Romanian Red Cross, are part either of short term programs that consist of water supply, diesel oil, first aid items, or in large programs to rehabilitate the affected areas and to prepare the population against possible disasters.

Besides the active help granted to the affected people, Petrom also takes into account the importance to educate the population in order to prevent and reduce the consequences of the disasters. Therefore, in May this year, Petrom and the Romanian Red Cross initiated a far-reaching program with the purpose of getting the people become aware of the specific measures and recommended actions in case of disasters.
