  • The sponsorship will cover the palliative care activities of HOSPICE Casa Speranței for the benefit of around 5,000 patients
  • Every year, over 170,000 patients in Romania need palliative care, but only one in five receives these services

Bucharest, February 22nd. OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in Southeastern Europe, supports the activity of HOSPICE Casa Speranței, the largest foundation in Romania offering palliative care. The company is providing over EUR 7 mn for the funding of operational costs of 2023, for the benefit of 5,000 patients. In this way, the foundation will concentrate its financial and fund-raising efforts towards building two new hospitals in Brașov and in Adunații-Copăceni.

Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom: “We partner with HOSPICE Casa Sperantei because we fundamentally believe in the right to dignity for incurable patients. HOSPICE Casa Speranței is a home, a refuge and a symbol which reminds us all that, when facing suffering, we are not, and we should not be, alone. We are privileged to work together with such a long-standing and impactful organization in Romania.”

Mirela Nemțanu, Executive Director HOSPICE Casa Speranței: “OMV Petrom’s sponsorship is a landmark moment with a huge impact in the patients’ lives who are fighting incurable diseases. We are grateful to our partners at OMV Petrom who understood the need of helping people who are in extremely vulnerable situations and got involved with significant resources in a cause capable of generating change.

We are proud for having opened 30 years ago a new road for more than 45,000 patients and more than 100,000 caretakers. With the support of OMV Petrom we are now entering a new phase of development that will allow us to raise funds for the construction of two new HOSPICE hospitals: one in Brasov for adults and one for children in Adunații Copăceni.”

Over 170,000 patients need palliative care each year, but only one in five receives these services. More than that, 11 counties in Romania do not have a palliative care supplier.  HOSPICE Casa Speranței considers that the palliative care is a human right and its belief is that, in Romania, all patients suffering from an incurable disease should benefit from adequate palliative care services, at the right time, so that they should live with dignity every moment, next to the loved ones. Since its establishment, HOSPICE Casa Speranței has helped over 45,000 patients and over 100,000 caretakers.
